We will leave by coach for Barbizon, tucked along the western corner of the forest of Fontainebleau. This charming village found fame in the 19th century through the works of art created by landscape painters who were members of the Barbizon School art movement. A stroll through the lush forest renders a snapshot of the rocky chaos painted by Jean-Baptiste-Camille Corot and the old oak forests where Simon Mathurin Lantara raised his cows. In the center of the village, we’ll stop by the Auberge Ganne, a period museum that recreates the atmosphere of the time the artists were in residence. The museum’s permanent collection includes works by Théodore Rousseau, Jean-François Millet, Narcisse Diaz de la Peña, Constant Troyon, and Charles Jacque, to name just a few. After our excursion, we’ll return to the ship.
