Like the great men who forged their history, you will arrive by sea to discover several Indian States: Tamil Nadu and its old trading posts, Kerala with its backwaters, Goa with its many places of worship and finally, one of the richest states—Maharashtra, with its vibrant capital city Bombay and the museum dedicated to Gandhi, known as the Father of the Nation.

MADRAS (Chennai)

Your program will begin according to your time of arrival in Madras:

Passengers are welcome to board at 8:00 a.m. After comfortably settling into your cabins, enjoy free time on board before lunch.

OPTIONAL EXCURSION: Take a tour of Madras (in the afternoon). Visit the Saint Thomas cathedral, before entering the impressive Kapaleeshwarar Temple, dedicated to Shiva.

We’ll introduce our crew at a welcome cocktail before dinner. We’ll spend the night on board.

COLOMBO (Sri Lanka)

OPTIONAL EXCURSION: The city of Galle and its fortifications, and panoramic tour of Colombo (full day). The city of Galle, included on UNESCO’s list of world heritage sites, is the most beautiful example of south-east Asian fortified cities. Afterwards, join us for a panoramic tour of the city of Colombo.

We’ll cruise to Kochi, then have dinner and spend the night on board.

KOCHI

OPTIONAL EXCURSION: Tour of the city of Kochi and the Backwaters of Kerala (full day). Enjoy a panoramic tour of the city, visit St. Francis Church, then continue on towards Backwaters. We’ll board elegant, thatch-roofed wooden boats and enjoy a lunch consisting of local specialties.

We’ll have dinner and spend the night on board. We’ll cruise to Goa.

BOMBAY (Mumbai)

OPTIONAL EXCURSION: Take a panoramic tour of Bombay (in the afternoon). You’ll discover the neighborhood of Colaba with the emblem of the city: The Gateway of India and the Taj Mahal Palace, the monumental Victorian station, the university, the clock tower, and more. We’ll then visit the museum dedicated to the life of Mahatma Gandhi.

We’ll enjoy a gala dinner and spend the night on board.

BOMBAY

OPTIONAL EXCURSION: Elephanta island (in the morning). Elephanta island is famous because it is home to the “city of caves”, a collection of archaeological cave temples dedicated to the Hindu god Shiva.

We’ll return to the ship. We’ll enjoy lunch on board. End of our services at 2:00 p.m.

EXCURSIONS:

  • Excursions are only available for purchase up to 15 days before your trip begins.
  • Excursions will alternate between air-conditioned buses, small local boats, or rickshaws.
  • The excursions will be narrated by a local, French-speaking tour guide, and you will have earphones for easier listening.
  • Frequent traffic jams in large Indian cities, caused by intense traffic or religious events, can disturb the sequence of certain excursions.

PRECAUTIONS

Vaccines are not mandatory for this trip. It is nevertheless advisable to be up to date with the following vaccinations: tetanus, polio, hepatitis A and B, diphtheria, and typhoid fever. The use of mosquito repellent is highly recommended.

The Indian and Sri Lankan rupee: please consult websites such as www.xe.com or www.oanda.com/currency/converter/.

Payment using credit or debit cards is not current practice, but you will be able to withdraw money easily. There is no currency exchange service on board.

WEATHER

In terms of weather, the best period for visiting India and Sri Lanka is from the end of November to the end of March, regardless of the region visited. This will allow you to avoid both the monsoon season and unbearable summer heat. The temperature oscillates between 15°C and 32 °C (59°- 90° Fahrenheit) in India, and in Sri Lanka, the temperature is relatively constant at this time of year: 27°C (80°F).

These cruises and tours are not recommended for persons with reduced mobility. You must be in good physical condition to participate as most visits are done on foot.

The captain of the ship is the sole authority who can modify the ship itinerary for safety or navigational reasons.

The excursions can be modified and the order of the visits can be reversed in the event of technical difficulties or local, cultural or sporting events. The local authorities can decide to close certain sites or museums at any time and for any reason. If this happens, we will propose an alternative.
