Route

Day 1

SETE

Passengers are welcome to board our ship at 6 p.m.

Our barge will moor directly alongside sailboats, just a few steps away from downtown Sète. Today a vast, cosmopolitan town and the largest fishing port on the French Mediterranean coast, Sète has been nurturing its passionate connection with the sea ever since its harbor was built in the 17th century. Over the decades, the city has managed to retain its charm and traditions while new additions have been made to the architecture, with attractive buildings housing shops, restaurants, and bars along the edges of the many crisscrossing canals in the city.

Join us for an optional excursion: The Pointe Courte fishing district(1).

To Sète locals, fishing is more than a hobby, it is a way of life. Join us this evening for a stroll through the Pointe Courte sector, Sète's historic fishing district. The original village was made up of modest huts, built by the very first Étang de Thau fishermen to sustain their basic housing needs. Even though the years have passed and the district has developed, the Pointe Courte has managed to hold on to its authenticity and distinctive charm. Our tour will take you down the district's meandering, quaint streets lined with colorful houses while our guide recounts anecdotes from yesteryear. The typical and joyful atmosphere even inspired French filmmaker Agnès Varda to make a movie about the quarter in the 1950s. After our tour, we'll head back downtown to experience the ambiance around the port one last time before we return on board.

We'll introduce our crew at a welcome cocktail before dinner on board.

Day 2

SETE - PALAVAS-LES-FLOTS

Enjoy a parting view of the port as we leave Sète this morning. The long, golden beaches bordering the Mediterranean Sea are a stunning sight. Wilderness will slowly take over the surrounding landscapes again as we move further away from the sea until we reach solid ground again in Palavas-Les-Flots.

Optional excursion proposed: The Maguelone Isthmus(1).

This former volcanic island has been inhabited throughout history.

The island’s cathedral, rebuilt by the Bishop of Maguelone in the 12th century after being abandoned for three centuries, served as a place of worship as much as a refuge for numerous pontiffs who fled to France amidst political and ecclesiastical turmoil in Italy. After being abandoned again in the 16th century and left to decay, it was sold and classified as a historic monument in the 19th century, allowing for the serious restoration project it deserved. For the last 50 years, a work assistance center based at the cathedral has been helping adults with learning disabilities find jobs. Maguelone is also home to a vast vineyard that we'll tour with a guide, who will tell us about the various steps to winemaking before we sample their organic range.* We'll finish up our tour with a walk to the heart of the historic section of the domain, spread around the wooded park surrounding the cathedral. This is the chance to learn even more about the isthmus and its wildlife—you may be lucky enough to cross paths with one of the majestic peacocks roaming freely around the preserved grounds! After our excursion, we'll return on board the ship.

Tonight, take advantage of some free time to experience Palavas-Les-Flots, a three-century-old seaside resort. Known to French locals as the "Queen of the Mediterranean beaches," the town brims with old gems and newer additions to its cityscape. While ambling down streets filled with the aromas of fresh herbs and local produce from the market stalls, you'll walk past ancient narrow, two-level houses that were built to accommodate fishermen and their families—testimony to the history of what was once a charming fishing village that became a renowned seaside resort, all the while maintaining its friendly, small-scale atmosphere.

OR

Optional excursion proposed: A traditional evening in a manade(1).

Discover a manade and the life of its herders during a visit and take part in the sorting of the bulls. This is a true invitation to discover the daily life of a family-run business honoring age-old human-animal bonding. We'll enjoy cocktails and live music before indulging in traditional delicacies over dinner.

Day 3

PALAVAS-LES-FLOTS - AIGUES MORTES

We'll spend this morning cruising towards Aigues-Mortes. We'll start cruising along the Canal du Rhone-à-Sète. On each side of the canal, endless salt marshes extend and flamingos flap their wings around the vast lakes—a landscape typical of the Camargue, itself a true haven for wildlife. We'll then reach the small canal, bordered by wild bulls and horses roaming the high grass.

Optional excursion proposed in the afternoon: Safari in the Camargue in a four-wheel-drive vehicle(1).

Join us for an exciting jaunt into the heart of the wilderness, far from the touristic spots. From the Petite to the Grande Camargue, our local guide will drive you through the various sections that make up this rich natural region. On board a four-wheel-drive vehicle, we'll head for the heart of the Regional Nature Park of the Camargue among marshes, rice fields, lagoons and canals populated by a diversity of wildlife such as egrets, herons and, of course, emblematic flamingos. After our invigorating tour, we'll recharge our batteries by tasting local delicacies paired with excellent wine, of course.* After our excursion, we'll return on board the ship.

Take advantage of our exceptional mooring in Aigues-Mortes to enjoy breathtaking views of the old, fortified part of town.

Tonight is our festive gala evening.
