Day 2

HURGHADA

We'll leave for a full-day optional excursion to Thebes—the ancient capital of the Pharaohs—to visit Luxor and the Valley of the Kings (lunch included; an approximate 16-hour tour with 7 hours of round-trip travel). The Valley of the Kings is one of ancient Egypt's top tourist destinations. Located on the west bank of the River Nile, the isolated valley is dominated by a great pyramid-shaped mountain. The area has been the site of royal burials for almost 4,000 years. More than 63 tombs include Seti I(4) and II; Ramesses III, IV, VII, and IX; Siptah; Tausert-Setnakht; and Merenptah. You'll be able to visit three with your entry ticket. The final resting place for these great pharaohs remains one of the most impressive sites to visit in the world. Farther along, dominating the eastern bank, sits the 59-foot high (18 m) Colossi of Memnon—faceless effigies seated on thrones at the entrance to the mortuary temple of Amenhotep III. We'll also visit the Karnak Temple Complex. At the heart of this site stands the colossal Precinct of Amun-Re, enclosing a sacred lake that priests used in purification ceremonies before performing rituals in the temple.

OR

Enjoy an optional day at a hotel resort along the coast (lunch at hotel not included). Take in some rays and relax on the beach or at one of the many resort pools.

Day 4

SUEZ

Set out on a full-day optional excursion to Cairo (lunch included; approx. 10.5 hours total, including 4 hours round-trip travel). The morning will be dedicated to a tour following the footsteps of the Pharaohs. The Giza pyramid complex is home to one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World: The "Great Pyramid of Giza." At its sides sit the Pyramids of Khafre and Menkaure, as well as the Great Sphinx of Giza. Afterwards, we'll visit the Museum of Egyptian Antiquities in Cairo. This exceptional museum, located in an impressive neoclassical building, opened its doors in 1902. At that time, it only contained about 12,000 pieces. Today, the museum owns the greatest collection of Egyptian archaeological history in the world. Among the objects you'll discover are rare statues, paintings, and funeral elements. Within the Royal Mummy Room, you'll see the enveloped remains of some of the most famous pharaohs. After our exciting day, we'll return to Suez.

Onboard New Year's celebration  Our chef will delight in preparing an exquisite feast for all during this exceptional evening. Ring in the New Year and beyond with a traditional French welcome: Streamers and confetti, champagne, and onion soup before bed.

Day 5

SUEZ

Today, we'll enjoy brunch on board. The morning is yours to do as you please. We suggest some sightseeing in the city and visiting its museum (entry fee not included in your package).

In the afternoon, join us for a free excursion to the Monastery of Saint Anthony.

The Coptic Orthodox Monastery of Saint Anthony is tucked in an oasis within the Eastern Desert of Egypt. The monks continue to follow faithfully the traditions established by the first followers of Saint Anthony of Egypt and Saint Paul the Anchorite over 16 centuries ago. Saint Paul was regarded as the first Christian hermit, living in a cave near a spring and palm tree in the area until he was over 100 years old.

After our excursion, we'll continue to cruise to Sharm El Sheikh.

Day 6

SHARM EL SHEIKH

The colorful Sinai Peninsula is a sacred area for many religions. The land takes its name from Mount Sinai, assumed to be where God delivered the Ten Commandments to Moses. At dusk, the earth takes on burnt-red tones and becomes a feast of colors.

We'll set out on an optional excursion to Ras Muhammad National Park, one of the most impressive sites on the peninsula. The spectacular coral reef ecosystems and vividly colored fish offer a veritable paradise for snorkeling.

OR

Enjoy an optional glass-bottom boat tour in Naama Bay, which will introduce you to the colorful riches found within the Red Sea.

We'll continue to cruise to Aqaba.

Day 7

AQABA

We'll spend the morning cruising along the Sinai Peninsula towards Aqaba.

Joins us for an onboard lecture about Jordan and the Nabatean people.

After, we'll set out on an optional excursion to the Wadi Rum desert, a must-see site for any visitor. We'll stop for many photo ops as we make our way in 4-wheel drive vehicles, allowing you to discover the desert made famous by Lawrence of Arabia. You'll be dazzled by the spectacular colors of the barren lands, seeing them change according to the radiance of the sunlight as the day progresses. The Bedouins that inhabit the Wadi Rum are well known for their hospitality. Under their tent, you'll be invited to enjoy tea and delicious specialties of their local cuisine.

Day 8

AQABA

Join us for a full-day optional excursion to Petra (lunch included; approx. 10 hours total, including 4 hours round-trip travel). Petra is unquestionably one of the greatest marvels ever constructed and is considered one of Jordan's national treasures. Carved into the pink and red stone by the Nabataeans—an Arab people living in Jordan over 2,000 years ago—Petra, meaning "rock" in Greek, was strategically located at the junction of the silk and spice trade routes. To enter the city, we will follow the "Siq," a narrow gorge approximately a half mile in length, delimited by sharp cliffs on either side—ending at Al Khazneh, also known as "The Treasury." This Nabataean tomb has an impressive Hellenistic facade carved directly into the pink stone at the beginning of the 1st century. It is a masterpiece of refinement and symmetry, which on its own makes a visit to Petra worthwhile. You will also discover the Roman-style Nabataean theater carved into the rock over 2,000 years ago. We'll enjoy lunch in a local restaurant before returning to the ship in Aqaba.

OR

Enjoy an optional day at a hotel resort along the coast (lunch at hotel not included). Take in some rays on the private beach or relax poolside and enjoy the Jacuzzi and sauna. The resort has an open-air restaurant with a large patio. They also propose a wide range of fun water activities like parasailing, water skiing, and jet ski rentals (not included – on-site payment).

We'll then continue on to the Hathor Temple in the Dendera Temple complex. Hathor is the Egyptian goddess of love, fertility, and music. Her temple contains intricately decorated rooms and columns that have remained preserved for thousands of years.
